On Saturday the 23rd of September Bandon’s Fred Daly Plate team faced off against Dooks in the Munster Final. Unfortunately it proved a step too far for our juniors this year. Having already disposed of a couple of better teams (in respect of handicaps) the lads couldn’t quite overcome the deficit on this occasion.
On an afternoon on which you probably wouldn’t have put the dog out Ronan Hoey managed to put the first point of the day on the board for Bandon and was quickly followed by Mark Tobin who put a second point on the board. However in the remaining three matches Ger Cummins, Cillian Power and Jack O’Donoghue were up against it and although Cillian managed a mini-revival to give us some hope, Bandon eventually lost out in the three remaining matches. Though bitterly disappointed the boys were reminded that this is the first inter-club junior final Bandon have reached in quite some time and should be proud of their effort. Indeed those who followed their progress in the competition will attest to the great golf they played, at times punching well above their weight.
To those who turned out to support (including the President, Captain and Treasurer) on such a miserable day we would like to express our appreciation and we know the boys also appreciated it.
On behalf of myself and Sean O’Donoghue (“the management team”), and indeed the boys involved, I would like to express our thanks to the President, Captain, Treasurer, Junior Boys Officer and members of the club for their support of our endeavours this year.
Onwards and upwards boys!!!
